You might be wondering what I would be doing in this field.  I was wondering that myself recently.  I had heard about all these jets parked out in the desert passing time.  Then I heard a lot of them are military, and I started thinking - always a dangerous activity for yours truly.  So, from November 7-9, 2001, I went searching.

When I started surfing the web I found several things;

Pima Air & Space Museum
AMARC - Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center
Titan Missile Museum

Then it hit me.  All this military hardware that is being scrapped is the result of decades of big science and the military-industrial complex, to use the old term.  I wanted to see for myself - so I did.  Since I have the time, as my wife tells me..

First I went to Tucson, by car of course - because I have the time.  I visited the Pima museum, certainly the best of the three.  Then I visited AMARC that afternoon.  They only allow a bus tour so you don't get to walk around at all.  After the bus tour I went back to the Pima Museum and barely got done before they threw me out at the close of the day.

The next day I went to the Titan Missile Museum in Green Valley.  This is an actual Titan II missile silo complete with a Titan II missile in place.  It has been deactivated, and there isn't any nuke on board anymore, but it's still an impressive site.
