Alek Arrives!
Home Page Next Level Up

Alek Donald arrived at 10:01 AM Sunday morning, October 20th.

Caroline was to be induced this past weekend.  The process started just fine, but in the end the baby was born via caesarean section.  The welfare of the baby was the key item that drive the decision, and in 20/20 hindsight, it was the right decision since baby and mother are both very healthy and doing well.

This is Caroline after the IV finally got installed.  It was quite a challenge because Caroline's vein's hide at the sight of a needle.  On the third stab it worked.

This is the first time Caroline got to see Alek.  Caroline is on the operating table and is being sewn up.  You can see how effective the epidural is.  She can't feel a thing - Thank Goodness!

Alek displayed a curiosity about the world right from the start.  He was quiet and tried to look around a good bit while he was being cleaned up and examined.  He was 6 pounds 6.5 ounces, and 19.5 inches long at birth.

Alek is resting comfortably in the baby recovery center.  The gold sensor is used to monitor temperature.

Grandma and Grandpa arrived immediately.  They got to visit with Caroline and Alek in the recovery room.  Caroline was starting to be able to move her legs at this time, but her spirits were good, and she was very taken with Alek.

Yes, I did "participate" in the whole deal.  I have seen parts of Caroline that she will never see.  I had the highly demanding responsibility of holding her hand and being nice to her.  I guess my challenges will get tougher as we move forward..  ;-)

Alek is now a few days old.  He's coming along well and Caroline is getting the hang of being the Mommy.  I get to sleep at home so I don't get as fatigued as Caroline does with all the feedings.

Mitch & Susan sent this little Teddy Bear that took and immediate liking to Alek.
Caroline found that sometimes a finger works as well as the real thing.

Watching a new baby can get monotonous, especially if it's not your first time around  It's a good thing there is a paper nearby to get through the boring parts!  Sarah and Roy were always at the ready if we needed anything.
