Mountains 2007

We spent a week in the mountains of Mammoth and Lake Tahoe this summer.  We did a lot of hiking and schmoozing, as usual.  This time we got to spend a few days with Steve & Maria in South Lake Tahoe at the end of the week.

We spent an afternoon at Horseshoe Lake, fishing, sunning, skipping rocks and goofing around.

Some braved the seriously cold water.  Others got in up to their ankles and no further.
And then some deer just walked out of the woods and across the beach on the other side.

Alek spent some time drowning bait and lures, but never came up with a single fish.  But somehow that didn't deter him, and he doesn't even drink beer - yet!

Meanwhile Sam, Robert, and Anna came home with a bunch of fish.  Which turned out to be quite delicious.

Sam cleaned the fish before I grilled them.  Anne seemed to be a bit put off by the scene of fish guts being explained by Sam as he worked.  Alek was intrigued by the whole thing.
Caroline and Roy did dishes a lot.  Thank goodness we have such a great kitchen crew, and they like my cooking too!

One night we played poker.  Alek started by helping me, but as soon as my chips got reduced he headed for Roy whose chips were increasing.
And we got to see Brian and the Tettybear celebrating their fifth anniversay!

Alek finally caught a fish in South Lake Tahoe!  And then he caught another and another.  They were little carp in canal behind the house, so we didn't eat them, just threw them back.
Caroline did yeoman's duty pulling fish off the hook and putting them in the wading pool so Ethan and Alek could play with them.

            Alek Playing Wii Video
Ethan did some dancing, Ethan style while Alek got worked up a sweat playing tennis on the Wii.  Alek spent about 2 hours or more in full body Wii play.  He really worked up a sweat and then passed out for the night.

Alek wanted to try the Honda.  Caroline was completely opposed to the idea until I promised to stick to the canal.  Then Alek decided it was fun to try and run over the ducks and geese with the Honda.  He's a guy!

Later we headed for Emerald Bay.  On the way Maria and I rode the raft and Dave raced the Honda all over the place.  Eventually Maria got on the Honda and it wasn't too long before Steve dumped me off the raft.  A LOT of fun.

Ethan likes to drive the boat.  One time Alek wanted to drive the boat too.  Major showdown.  Fortunately Alek could be distracted with a Cheeto, all became peaceful again..

Captain Steve handles the boat with aplomb at all times.
On the way into Emerald Bay we passed the Tahoe Queen.
Courtney gets ready to swim in Emerald Bay.
Courtney's Dad, Dave, kicks back between strolls on the beach and dock diving.

Jumping off the front of the boat is a kick.  Steve and I had a good time with it.

Courtney was the queen of the dock in our group.  She headed off the end of that dock numerous times.

Dave, Steve, and I made a few jumps off the dock too.  Caroline only caught me with the camera.

Ethan and Alek wind down the day on the ride back to the house.  They slept pretty well that night.
